“While we never worked in the same company, I called
upon Gary numerous times over many years for guidance regarding
organizational safety and health issues in the companies for
which I worked. It was apparent to me that his reputation
for professional, ethical and straight-forward counsel was
well earned. Gary was of great assistance to my organization
as we occasionally looked outside our limited resources for
answers and creative ideas.”

“I
am executive director of the Pulp & Paper Manufacturers
Association (PPMA). I asked Gary to speak to one of our conferences
in 2005. What a joy he was to work with! He listened to our
needs and complied with our desire to have him speak on the
topic: “Millions of Hours Without a Lost Time Injury
– Did it Happen by Accident?” Gary was an excellent
resource for this subject. He prepared well and showed attention-grabbing
and thorough PowerPoint slides. He addressed his audience
and engaged them in questions and answers. Gary knows the
aspects of safety and health issues so completely that he
is a logical “go-to-guy” regarding safety compliance
and how-to types of topics. Our Association members need to
remain in contact with Gary and Fox Valley Safety Solutions,
LLC as we go forward.”

“I
have had the pleasure of working with Gary over the last seven
years. Highlights of this time include:
Understanding the components of a comprehensive safety process
in a manufacturing environment and how that complies with
OSHA VPP and also, a safe workplace. Gary built a great system
at G-P Green Bay Day Street. It included an hourly run BBS
program called NSA (Northern Safety Alliance) named by the
employees. This team has made a significant impact on how
people do work through behavior observations. This is a great
accomplishment, especially in a union mill with tough contract
concessions and downsizing.
Gary designed and implemented a contractor safety program,
which included certification and training. This was an outstanding
model of what a program should look like and work. We decertified
long time contractors and banned them from the facility because
they did not comply with the process. Accountability at its
highest!
Gary helped institute a safety work order process that guaranteed
the work was completed as requested and on time. This process
stopped the complaints by hourly employees that would say
“nothing ever gets fixed around here!” This process
had a weekly review to ensure we never missed a completion
time. It was highly effective and a significant component
of the safety program at the mill.
Gary set a safety vision for the workplace that was focused
on zero injuries and a creating a culture where unsafe behaviors
were not present. This vision had a descriptor he would use
that talked about our behaviors and safe ones “were
just like us” and unsafe were “not like us.”
This vision caught on and was a real value add as we created
a safety culture that was a tenfold improvement over five
years!”

“I
worked with Gary for 21 years as a medical director at a large
paper manufacturing facility.
Gary provided comprehensive, unbiased professional expertise
as an industrial hygienist and safety professional. Administrative
and engineering solutions volunteered regarding ventilation
and ergonomic issues were a win-win for both our employees
and the employer.
I particularly valued his expertise with our asbestos medical
surveillance, respirator fitness, hearing conservation, and
management programs that supported medical case management
of both work related and non-work-related health concerns.
Most importantly, Gary understands that occupational safety
and health is a team effort and his leadership and communication
skills were outstanding.”
